Lando Norris claimed a convincing win at the Mexico City Grand Prix, leading the race from start to finish without major trouble.
At the start, most of the front runners chose soft tyres, while both Red Bulls and Isack Hadjar began on mediums. Norris made a clean start from pole and had to defend from both Ferrari drivers. Max Verstappen went in hard at Turn 1, touched Charles Leclerc, and both ran wide. Leclerc briefly took the lead but soon handed the position back to Norris.
After two laps, the top ten were Norris, Leclerc, Hamilton, Verstappen, Russell, Bearman, Antonelli, Tsunoda, Piastri, and Ocon. Liam Lawson had to pit early for a new front wing. A few laps later, Norris started pulling away, opening a gap of more than one and a half seconds over Leclerc.
Verstappen and Hamilton then clashed while fighting for position, both going off track. Oliver Bearman took advantage to move up to fourth. Soon after, Lawson retired from the race. Hamilton was investigated and later given a ten-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
Carlos Sainz was the first to make a planned stop, changing from mediums to softs. Norris stayed in control, extending his lead to over eight seconds. Piastri struggled to match his teammate’s speed. Hamilton served his penalty on lap 24, switched to mediums, and rejoined in 14th place. Bearman, Piastri, and Russell stopped shortly after. Sainz picked up another penalty and reported an issue with his pit limiter.
Bearman continued to impress, passing Hadjar for fifth and later Tsunoda for fourth. Norris made his only stop on lap 34 for mediums and kept the lead. Soon after, Alonso retired. Verstappen changed to softs around lap 38 and returned to the track in eighth, more than half a minute behind Norris. Russell complained about team orders, and Antonelli was told to let him through.
By lap 46, Norris was 20 seconds clear of Leclerc. Piastri, stuck behind the Mercedes cars, pitted for softs on lap 48, along with Antonelli and Hamilton. McLaren made a quick stop, allowing Piastri to come out ahead of Hamilton.
Bearman and Russell stopped again a few laps later for softs. Russell had to defend from Ocon, who later lost ground to Piastri and Antonelli. Leclerc was told he could reach the finish without another stop. Bearman pulled away from Russell to secure fourth place. Sainz’s race ended badly with a drive-through penalty for another speeding violation before retiring completely.
In the closing laps, Verstappen closed in on Leclerc, reducing the gap to under two seconds. Bearman had to defend against Piastri for fourth. With two laps to go, yellow flags came out when Sainz stopped in the final sector, bringing out the Virtual Safety Car. Verstappen was just three-tenths behind Leclerc, but the race resumed too late for an overtake.
Norris took a dominant win and moved into the championship lead. Leclerc held second ahead of Verstappen in third. Bearman finished an excellent fourth, followed by Piastri in fifth. Antonelli and Russell came home sixth and seventh, with Hamilton eighth. Ocon took ninth for Haas, and Bortoleto rounded out the top ten.
